What If You Forgot to Drain Grease from Ground Beef?

If you got distracted while cooking and forgot to drain the grease from ground beef after cooking it, what will happen? The short answer is – nothing. Yes your dish will likely be a bit greasy and have additional calories, but it will also have additional flavor! It is not harmful though.

Ground beef is a versatile ingredient that can be used in a variety of dishes. It’s often used in tacos, chili, pasta dishes, and more. Browning ground beef is simple, and recipes almost always tell you to drain the grease after cooking it. But this is not necessary. It is totally up to you. This is what happens if you choose not to drain the grease.

The extra fat can make your dish greasy. But you may prefer it this way. In addition, it can also add more calories and saturated fat to your meal. You also may prefer this for some reason. But most people are trying to eat a healthier diet and so choose to drain at least some of the grease.

The added oil and grease can also change the flavor of your dish. If you make a recipe that doesn’t call for any additional fat, such as a tomato sauce, the extra grease can make it taste too rich. Draining the fat can help to eliminate this problem.

But the bottom line is this: if you forget to drain the grease, or if you choose not to, it’s totally ok!

  1. I just tried making taco rice for the first time. I left the grease in the pan after cooking the ground beef and just poured it all out onto the rice. It came out great!
